About Me

I’m Chad. I live in Honolulu. I love being an Epicurean.

Born in Honolulu, I was brought up with my maternal grandmother making local style Japanese dishes and my father using what was in the refrigerator to make a feast for a family get together. With cousins who have a wide ranging palate for wine and friends that know incredible technique, formal training was not in my future.

My parents instilled a sense of travel at an early age with trips to visit family on the neighbor islands and the world with vacations to a variety of locations. Today, I can be found hopping on a plane or secretly finding air fare deals for that next trip around the world. My travels inspire me in the kitchen with the different ways cultures use flavors to create distinct and signature dishes. Whether it is a Michelin-star restaurant or that simple food stand on the street, each create items that allow you to delve into a culture in a very personal and unique way.

While my father was the chef of the household kitchen, it wasn’t until I moved to Seattle for college where my passion for food took hold. It started simple enough, trying to learn how to cook my father’s beef stew. From there it was the researcher in me to learn new dishes and techniques. Luckily, I had friends that were willing test subjects.

Today, I’m a marketer by day and it fulfills my professional desires. Outside the office, you can find me in the local markets finding ingredients, in my kitchen whipping up dishes, or traveling the world from the middle of the Pacific in search of new flavors.
